What home infusion nurses do
- Start peripheral IVs and care for PICC lines, midlines and implanted ports
- Give therapies such as IV antibiotics, IVIG, hydration and parenteral nutrition
- Draw labs and monitor for reactions and complications
- Teach patients and caregivers to run pumps and care for lines
- Document each visit and report to the pharmacy and physician
What employers look for
- An active RN license (Texas or multistate compact)
- Confident IV starts and central-line care
- Infusion, ICU, emergency, oncology or home health experience
- A reliable car; the work is in patients’ homes
Certification
The Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) credential from the Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation is the recognized specialty certification. It is valued but rarely required to start.

Many do. Infusion pharmacies and agencies hire full-time, part-time and PRN nurses, often paid per visit or per hour.
How do I get into home infusion nursing?
Strong IV skills and acute-care experience are the usual path. Many nurses come from ICU, emergency, oncology or infusion-center work.
