Neuro hospitalist roles
A neuro hospitalist team manages inpatients with stroke, seizures, encephalopathy, neurotrauma and other neurological conditions, often across the ICU and step-down units. Many teams work block schedules such as seven days on and seven days off. Stroke credentials such as the NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification and Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) are commonly preferred.
Licensing and certification in Texas
Nurse practitioners in Texas are licensed as advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) by the Texas Board of Nursing, and need national board certification in their population focus, such as adult-gerontology acute care. Physician assistants are licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board and hold the PA-C credential from the NCCPA. Prescribing controlled substances requires DEA registration.
